| Show appearance on KENN 1390 This That and the Other - Monday, August 25, 2008I just got off the show and realized that we needed a place to document some of the things we talked about.
I'll post some links later today for the different things we mentioned on the show this morning in case you missed them or didn't get a chance to write it down.

| Appearance on AM 1390 - This That and The other - Sunday, August 24, 2008I'm fortunate to be able to be on the Radio show This That and the Other with Dorthy Nobis and Tommy Bolack, Monday August 25th 2008 from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
This is going to be a two hour show so we will get to cover a lot of topics. I hope to get a recording of the show to post on the site after in case anyone misses that would like to hear about it.
The plan is to cover topics near and dear to my heart like Internet safety, scams and of course my favorite - fighting spam.
Since there is going to be a lot of time we will also go into things like web filtering appliances, Voice Over IP providers like Vonage or Skype, and Wireless network security.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to accept any questions, but if they announce it, call in.

| Update on mail services - Friday, July 18, 2008It has been a while since my last update, but I've finally found time to work on the mail server and I'm getting close.
Here are the major components that are in testing right now.
- Users can have an "accepted senders" list that will only allow e-mails from senders on that list to get through.
- Once a week (for now could be faster later) people can opt to get a "rejected senders" list that will contain a list of rejected senders, listed in order of probability of possible good senders, to for sure bad senders
- SMTP Firewall - Users can choose to flag and receive e-mails that I have determined come from foreign or spam ip addresses or reject them outright. These e-mails will go to a special IMAP folder called Firewalled which is just like the Spam folder.
Coming up
- There will be a "master" e-mail account that can contain sub accounts. The master account can control the settings for the sub accounts (firewall, accepted senders, spam etc). This is a perfect account for parents that want their kids to have e-mail, but want to control who they can receive e-mails from.
- Along with the account above, the master account can choose to get a report on who is sending e-mails to the sub accounts.
I'm expecting my updates to be completed by the end of August and system availability to be the first of September.

| Update on mail services - Friday, January 25, 2008I'm still in the process of getting the mail system where I want it.
I believe that I have a good handle on the SPAM, but now I want to give users more control over their settings.
One thing I'm looking at is setting up an account that parents can use to give their children e-mail accounts, and feel assured that their kids are safe using it.
This is a desire of mine for my children. If I can get it where I want, I'm hoping that others will find it useful.
